Tren·de·len·burg \ˈtren-də-lən-ˌbu̇rk\ Friedrich (1844–1924), German surgeon. A professor of surgery, Trendelenburg was the author of numerous articles. It was in an 1890 paper on vesicovaginal fistula that he presented the advantages of an elevated pelvic position for operations within the abdominal cavity.

: a position of the body for medical examination or operation in which the patient is placed head down on a table inclined at about 45 degrees from the floor with the knees uppermost and the legs hanging over the end of the table
